SUMMARY:Forum: Creation\, Discernment\, and the Plastics We Carry
DESCRIPTION:A Forum on the Environmental and Health Impacts of Plastics\n Sunday\, October 4\, following the 10:30 a.m. service \nJoin us this St. Francis Day — and on the culminating day of the Episcopal Church’s Season of Creation — for a forum exploring one of the subtle yet broadly encompassing ways we’re called to discernment: our daily relationship with plastic.  \nThis program builds on St. Margaret’s 2022 Lenten commitment to reducing single-use plastics\, when parishioners placed blossoms on our sculptural cherry tree as signs of personal commitment\, heard testimonials from fellow parishioners\, and welcomed a presentation from the Sierra Club. This fall\, we return to that work with fresh eyes and updated science.  \nThe Rev. Richard Weinberg will open with a brief theological framing\, connecting creation care to St. Margaret’s fall theme of discernment — the practices by which we notice\, question\, and choose how we live in relationship to God’s creation\, in ways both large and small. We’re honored to welcome Dr. Diane Bild\, a Washington-based physician who spent her career at the National Institutes of Health and is a member of both P-SNAP (the Physician and Scientist Network Addressing Plastics and Health) and Beyond Plastics.  \nDr. Bild will present on the environmental and human health impacts of plastics\, with practical guidance for what individuals\, households\, and congregations can do in response. This gathering is organized by St. Margaret’s Creation Care Committee\, led by parishioner Patty Nicoson\, and grows out of ongoing conversation among members interested in creation care and climate concerns.

Richard Weinberg\, wrote on his sabbatical earlier this year — a book on prayer. \nHear Richard’s motivation for writing the book and who it’s for. There will also be time for questions and conversation. SUMMARY:Midyear Parish Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, September 20 \nJoin us after worship to hear updates from our Rector\, Vestry\, and church leaders regarding our 2026 impact and priorities. We’ll reflect on this year’s extraordinary generosity (including meeting our $625\,000 stewardship stretch goal) and share where our attention is turning next: stewarding our people\, our resources\, and the deep engagement of newer parishioners in the life of this community and the launch of our 2027 stewardship campaign. This gathering is itself an act of discernment — pausing together to notice where we’ve been and listen for where God is leading us next.

SUMMARY:Advent Retreat 2025: Emmanuel: God With Us in Prayer & Community
DESCRIPTION:We invite you to St. Margaret’s for our annual Advent retreat weekend. As Advent begins\, many of us carry the weight of the world. Yet even now\, “a weary world rejoices” in anticipation of the birth of our Savior. This retreat offers space to breathe\, to be still\, and to remember that God is always with us — in our longing\, our hope\, and our prayer. \nIn-Person Retreat:\n 📅 Friday\, December 12 | 5:00–9:00 p.m.\n 📅 Saturday\, December 13 | 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.\n 📍 St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church \nThe weekend retreat will include dinner and evening fellowship on Friday\, followed by breakfast\, lunch\, afternoon tea\, and daytime sessions of group reflection\, prayer\, and quiet on Saturday\, concluding by 5:00 p.m.  \nBuilding on this cherished in-person gathering\, we’re deepening the experience this year by offering an optional weeklong Retreat in Daily Life leading up to the weekend. Participants will receive daily prayer prompts to guide personal prayer throughout the week. \nAn optional orientation for the weeklong retreat will be held\n 📅 Sunday\, December 7 | 2:00 p.m. on Zoom \nThose who wish may also meet virtually or in-person with a spiritual director (Richard Weinberg or Ron Lorentzen) for one-on-one conversation and guidance about their prayer experience in the week leading up to the in-person retreat. \nWhether you choose to pray at home during the week\, join the weekend retreat\, or both\, all are welcome to enter this sacred time of Advent waiting together. \nRegistration is required for planning purposes. The cost is $50 per person\, with scholarships available by request. Space is limited. Sign up here or contact a member of the planning team for more information.

SUMMARY:Embracing Lament: Six-Week Lenten Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday Evenings\, February 21\, 28\, March 6\, 13\, 20\, 27 6:30 to 8:00 \nShare a meal of soup and bread before joining a discussion of ancient and\npersonal lament\, led by the Rev. Dr. Robert Phillips\, Canon for Leadership Development\nand Congressional Care in the Diocese of Washington. \nSacred texts tell us that in times of crisis the ancient Israelites used images\,\nsymbols\, and metaphors to express the pain of their trauma. The Book of Psalms in\nHebrew Scripture encompasses the vast range of emotions experienced by a people\nwho had a relationship with God that was sometimes strong and resilient\, but often\nfragile and tenuous. In fragile and tenuous times\, they embraced lament psalms as a\nsacred poetry with which they could complain to God in faith. When we lament the\nprofound losses in our lives\, we can avoid tendencies of denial that distort our\nunderstanding and corrupt our ability to move toward healing and wholeness. \nDuring this Lenten season\, we will embark on a journey toward the development\nof our own personal lament psalms using symbols\, metaphors\, and images to facilitate\nan honest spiritual dialogue. By writing our own lament\, we build a bridge from the\npainful grief of personal brokenness to a space imbued with grace for personal healing\nand growth. \nThe series will conclude with at Service of Lament on March 27. \nSign up here for one or all of the sessions and to bring soup or bread or join the discussion via Zoom at 7:00 p.m. \nZoom Link \nMeeting ID: 894 7798 8351 \nPasscode: 928572 \nEmail the Rev. Diana V. Gustafson for more information.

SUMMARY:A Christian Response to Political Polarization
DESCRIPTION:This two-hour learning activity is for Christians who are concerned about the increasingly angry and hostile political climate they see around them and who would like guidance on how to respond. During the workshop\, we will discuss how Biblical teachings are relevant to toxic political polarization and explore ways to apply those teachings to a variety of situations.  Overall\, the emphasis of our time together is on elevating our faith above politics so that we approach the problem of polarization as Christians and not as supporters of a particular political perspective. The workshop is sponsored by Braver Angels\, a non-partisan national organization focused on helping to bridge the political divide in our country. More information about Braver Angels can be found here. Email the Rev. Diana Gustafson with questions. Please click here to register and make a $15.00 payment toward lunch. (Use drop-down >>> Special Purpose).
