DESCRIPTION:After a hiatus\, we are excited to restart our popular Maggie’s Cabaret series with a Friday\, May 10 show by BroadwayWorld’s Best Cabaret Solo Performance Artist in DC 2023\, singer Susan Derry\, with the wonderful Howard Breitbart as musical director and accompanist. Maggie’s Cabaret is a fundraising event for St. Margaret’s. With a suggested donation of $20 attendees receive a beverage and nibbles as they prepare to enjoy an hour of high quality talent\, using material from the Great American Songbook\, Broadway\, and other sources to deliver a memorable experience in the intimacy of our Parish Hall. No advance ticket sales; the doors open at 7:15 pm and the performance starts at 8:00. Bring a friend and enjoy a night out as we savor our spring weather!

Join us in recognition of Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month as Dr. Kwok Pui Lan explains how Asian and Asian American feminist theologians have responded to racism and other oppression and articulated a theology of solidarity\, reconciliation\, and hope. Dr. Kwok is the Dean’s Professor of Systematic Theology at Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta. She is a past president of the American Academy of Religion and is the author of The Anglican Tradition from a Postcolonial Perspective and coeditor of Anglican Women on Church and Mission. SUMMARY:Pride Concert
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a concert celebrating Pride Month\, featuring a new work by Eric Thomas and Buck McDaniel. \nNeither concert nor play\, The Heart of the Matter is a meditation on LGBTQIA+ Pride past\, present\, and future. The work pairs original texts narrated by Queer theological scholar Dr. Eric Thomas (The New School\, General Theological Seminary) and music composed by Buck McDaniel (Saturday Night Live\, The Moth) in varying combinations of solo organ (McDaniel)\, horn (Van Parker)\, and tenor vocals (Matthew Jones). Learn more about the artists here. \nAlthough Pride Celebrations are just that\, a celebration\, this work claims Pride as something bigger than a weekend event. In the work\, the audience is invited to recall and name those in our community lost to the AIDS Epidemic\, violence\, and suicide. Additionally\, it rejoices in the varied identities represented in Pride through song\, narration\, and creative use of the pipe organ as an extension of much of the electronic dance music that grew up around LGBTQIA+ culture. \nThe Heart of the Matter takes its name from the eponymous work by 20th c. Queer English composer Benjamin Britten\, composed to memorialize pianist Noel Mewton-Wood who committed suicide after the death of his partner. \nSt. Margaret’s Faith in Action Committee is sponsoring the relocation of an LBGTQ+ refugee through Welcome Corps and Rainbow Railroad. While there is no admission charge for this concert\, a free will offering will be collected to offset costs related to the committee’s endeavor.

DESCRIPTION:Thursdays\, April 25 to June 27\, 7:00–8:30 p.m.\, in person at St. Margaret’s. At the heart of this course is the idea that God’s greatest desire is to be with us in Jesus. That’s the reason the world was created; that’s why you were created. Over a period of ten weeks\, you will discover dimensions of this presence and what it means to live abundantly with God\, with one another\, and with creation. This course will be co-led by our Rector\, Associate Rector\, and Junior Warden. It was devised and created by English priest Samuel Wells\, a highly regarded (and prolific) author and theologian.
