DESCRIPTION:Please join fellow parishioners for a special group visit to the National Museum of African American History and Culture after our service on Sunday July 27.\nThe visit will begin with lunch at the Sweet Home Cafe\, a brief introduction to the museum and its history for those visiting for the first time\, and some discussion of the content of the exhibitions.\nThose who wish to have lunch before the visit must still enter at 1:15 with the group. Outside food and beverages other than water cannot be consumed in the museum or its cafe.\nPlease sign up here or directly with Ann Yonemura to be sure that you are included on the group list. Registrants will receive confirmation and information on where to meet. This event is organized by the Racial Justice Task Force.

SUMMARY:AAPI Heritage Month Exhibition Tour
DESCRIPTION:The Racial Justice Task Force invites you to join a tour and discussion of Pictures of Belonging\, an exhibition organized by the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles to highlight the lives and work of three Japanese American women painters. The tour will be led by parishioner and art historian Ann Yonemura\, Smithsonian curator emeritus. Ann and her father were friends of Mine Okubo author of Citizen 9066\, an illustrated account of her experience of incarceration during WWII. A discussion in the museum’s courtyard cave will focus on their achievements and the issues they faced as women and artists of Japanese descent. Saturday May 17\, 12:00-1:30 p.m.\, at the Smithsonian National Museum of American Art. Meet at the G Street entrance at Noon. Sign up to attend here.

DESCRIPTION:The Racial Justice Task Force will present a new documentary film by Brenda Hayes on the life of Mary Lumpkin (1832-1905)\, an enslaved woman who inherited a property that had been a jail for enslaved men and later became a seminary for freedmen. The film includes interviews with African American women who are carrying forward Mary Lumpkin’s legacy. The film will be followed by a discussion with the filmmaker and other speakers. SUMMARY:Tudor Place Tour and Picnic
DESCRIPTION:Join the Racial Justice Task Force for a curator-led tour of Ancestral Spaces: People of African Descent at Tudor Place. We will hear the history of the people and families enslaved to the owners of this historic Georgetown estate. The exhibition\, planned with participation by descendants of the African American community of Tudor Place\, reflects the ongoing process of coming to terms with the history of the site. After the tour we will move to the beautiful gardens for a prayer service and a BYO lunch or snack. Register Early: there are only 15 spots available. 1644 31st Street NW. Contact Ann Yonemura for details or visit the Tudor Place website. Note: The tour requires standing and walking stairs. There is no parking onsite and neighborhood parking is limited. Other transportation is highly recommended.\nIf you miss this tour\, the exhibition is open until October 13\, Tuesday through Saturday 10:00-4:00. Tickets for non-members are $10 adult/$5 seniors\, military\, and students.
