Journaling Through Advent
January 30, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 6:30 pm
An event every 5 weeks that begins at 6:00 pm on Sunday, repeating indefinitely
Looking forward, looking back…
“Perhaps it might be said rightly that there are three times: a time present of things past; a time present of things present; and a time present of things future. For these three do coexist somehow in the soul, for otherwise, I could not see them. The time present of things past is memory; the time present of things present is direct experience; the time present of things future is expectation.”
St. Augustine, Book 11, Chapter 20, Heading 26
St. Margaret’s five-week Advent program encourages participants to journal in response to the Sunday gospel readings and our program theme of Looking Forward/Looking Back. The past year of pandemic life has been experienced uniquely by each of us while being a collective experience for our St. Margaret’s community and our world. As we prepare for the birth of Jesus, journaling offers space to contemplate the ways God has been with us, where God is acting in our lives, and how God calls us as we look forward. The Gospel readings in Luke are a place to begin reflection; we consider each reading in light of our past experience and hopes for the future.
The program begins with a 30-minute zoom gathering at 6:00 pm on November 16th. Each following Tuesday participants will receive an email with the Sunday Gospel reading, a reflection, and a journal prompt. A 90-minute retreat on zoom will complete the program at 6:00 pm on December 14th. Register here. The deadline for signing up is November 14th.
