The Magpie Monthly Newsletter

St. Margaret's monthly newsletter is called "The Magpie"--and like its namesake bird, it calls out to our members to present the parish's activities, blessings, needs, history and future. In recent years, an ongoing series of articles highlighting the lives and faith of various members of our parish have been a well received aspect of our community.

If you would like to receive this publication please contact the church office, 202.232.2995, and ask Jim. For more information please contact Tom Head at 202.328.9770.

Outreach Booklet

Outreach has many faces. Outreach requires a diversity of gifts. As needs are infinite, so are the talents that meet them. Whatever your abilities, whatever your inclinations, there is no doubt a place in the outreach ministries of our parish that will be blessed by your presence and efforts.

So you want to get involved? What do you do next? Get a copy of the Outreach Booklet!

Twenty-one of our outreach and pastoral care ministries are described in our "Outreach Booklet." The booklet also describes the opportunities to become involved in the ministries. To obtain a copy, please inquire of any of our clergy or ushers at services, as copies are always available in the back of the church.

For more information please contact Florence Palmer at 301.445.2879.

Name Tags

St. Margaret's prepares simple name tags for all our parishioners. It is our way of helping visitors and newly joined members to become comfortable and remember the names of others in the congregation. We encourage our parishioners to use their names tags whenever attending a service.

If you do not have a name tag or have lost yours, please let Jim Riegel know. Likewise, if you are a newcomer to St. Margaret's and would like to have one, please sign the sign-up sheet in the narthex of the church. Jim will strive to have all newly requested name tags available for use within one week. Newly requested name tags and replacement name tags can be found on the heater inside the narthex. When leaving, please clip your name tag onto one of the racks in the wall cabinets conveniently located at both the front and rear exits of the church.

For more information about name tags please contact Jim Riegel at 202.232.2995.

Birthday Scribes

Everyone appreciates being remember on their birthday. At St. Margaret's we make this simple act of kindness into a ministry of thanksgiving. Members who have provided the day of the their birth to the office are remembered in the weekly announcements distributed with the service leaflet. They are prayed for by name during the prayers of the people. They are sent a card from the church. By appearing in the announcements, they are also recipients of additional blessings and prayers from other members.

If you would like help in the acknowledgement of birthdays at St. Margaret's, please contact Edith Scott at 202.244.0816. And if you'd like to be included in this roster of ministry, contact Jim Riegel at 202.232.2995.

Clerical Follow-up

St. Margaret's is extremely blessed to have a faithful cadre of volunteers to answer the phones in our office. These faithful individuals dedicate many hours each week to responding to the needs of those who call the church office. In addition, when you leave a message in the collection plate, or as a visitor, sign the guestbook in the narthex, they will follow-up by asking a member of the vestry to contact you at some point during the week. These calls are meant to provide our visitors with a member of the parish to whom they can address questions. Further, it is our desire to provide whatever support we can to help those wishing to join the community of Christ at St. Margaret's to feel welcome and a contributing part of our faith family. Many thanks to Katharine Pagan who leads the volunteers in this ministry, as well as to each of our parishioners who participate.
