Church School

We at St. Margaret’s are also blessed with a wonderful group of caring adults who give their time every Sunday during the academic year to minister to and guide our children in learning about our faith.

The new Sunday School year began on September 11, 2005. We are always in need of experienced and enthusiastic organizers to help us with the Sunday School room, coordinate activities or lead field trips. New teachers (no experience required!) are always welcome, especially for the age groups 10 and under.

"Younger" Groups (ages 4-10) Highlights

  • Two groups divided by age and maturity level meet in the Sunday School room
    • Ages 4-7 meets during each service
    • Ages 8-10 meets between services (at 10:15 - also known as the “10:15 Team”)
  • Parents decide
    • When a child is ready to begin
    • When they’re ready to move to the “10:15 Team”
  • Thematic Curriculum
    • Develop a theme over several weeks
    • Begin with old testament stories, then stories of Jesus’ life and teachings, followed by worship and church history
  • Changing demographics
    • Both groups will have a lower average age next year
    • Many of this year’s students will be moving up to the next age group (i.e. 4-7 to 10:15 Team and 10:15 Team to Journey to Adulthood)

Journey to Adulthood Program

  • First cohort formed this year will be joined by rising group from the 10:15 Team

    • Lasts 2-3 years
    • Includes a “rite of manhood or womanhood” to be celebrated with the church family at age 13
  • J2A builds on the lessons from Rite13
    • Cohort from Rite13 moves as a group into this phase
    • Culminates in a Pilgrimage to a Holy Site

Teacher Recruitment

During your prayers in the coming week, please ask God to raise up for us persons willing to teach our young people in the Christian Formation/Sunday School programs. This is an incredibly important part of our individual and corporate stewardship, and one that provides those called with incredible rewards and fun! Classes are taught in modules, so we are asking for commitments of six weeks in length . . . . renewable, of course, once you discover how much you love sharing your faith with our younger members. In the interest of full disclosure, we should warn you, that your faith will grow, too! If you are interested in being one of our Sunday morning Sunday school teachers, wonderful!

Nursery

  • descriptiondescription
St. Margaret's takes great pride in our children. We agree with the oft said maxim that children are not the future of the church; they are the church!

Complimentary professional child care is provided during special celebrations as well as every Sunday morning from 8:45 AM until the conclusion of the 11:15 AM Holy Eucharist. When you arrive at the Church, ask the ushers to direct you to the nursery and play area.

For more information about the Nursery please see Rukia Fatah or Shirelette Wilkins.

Christmas Pageant

Each year, St. Margaret's presents the story of the Nativity with the participation of the children and youth of the parish. The story is recreated in dramatic form with the help of adults, and it is a cherished part of the Christmas Season at St. Margarets. Our most recent pagaent was presented on Sunday, December 21st. 27 children and youth participated under the patient and creative guidance of Melissa and Jenny. The sanctuary was packed, and all present would gladly join with us when we say, "THANK YOU!" for a job well done!
