On The Way Bible Study

"On The Way" is St. Margaret's adult bible study program. We meet in the parlor (1830 Connecticut Avenue) on two Monday evenings each month for fellowship and reflection on scripture. We examine the bible readings for upcoming Sundays, and members of our lay-led group take turns in facilitating discussion. How do these ancient texts relate to our current faith journeys and today's world? "On The Way" affords us a chance to share our insights as well as our questions. In addition, books relating to theology and spirituality--by such authors as Marcus Borg, Peter Gomes, Kathleen Norris and others--are read and discussed. The meetings start with thanksgivings and end with prayers. All meetings are open, and are noted in the Sunday bulletin.

Church Retreats

St. Margaret's Retreat Ministry organizes several adult retreats each year, usually in Advent, Lent and summer. These overnight gatherings provide a good balance of fellowship and quiet time as we step away from the clamor of our routines to reflect on our faith journeys. Our lay-led weekends include creative worship, discussion, solitude, and shared meals.

Education for Ministry

Education for Ministry, commonly referred to as EFM, is a four year course of study developed by and taught under the auspices of the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. It is widely used by various denominations around the world as a tool to give Christians an enhanced understanding of the Bible, Church History, and Theological Issues, as well as, training in "Theological Reflection." TR helps Christians see the every day events of their lives from a spiritual point of view. It teaches participants to incorporate the lessons of scripture, the wisdom of tradition, and their own God given reason into both their understanding of events in their lives, and their reactions to those events and the events of the world in which we all live.

Adult Forum

  • descriptiondescription
The Sunday morning Adult Forums at St. Margarets are held at 10:15 AM between the 9:00 AM and 11:15 AM services most Sundays--with the exception of the summer months. We feature topics ranging from Bible study (our sessions with Dr. Tony Tambasco of Georgetown University are very popular!), Christian life and formation, and newsworthy topics of particular interest to our parishioners. Our forums on the arts are also well worth attending (Poetry and Spirituality, History of Art, etc). If you want to broaden your faith perspectives, and do it in an atmosphere of lively discussion and challenging ideas, the Forums at St. Margaret's are certainly "the place to be seen at 10:15". We look forward you seeing you there, and please feel free to make suggestions for future topics.

Inquirer's Class

Inquirer's Classes for those seeking to learn more about their faith as experienced and lived out in the Anglican Tradition begin meeting during the Fall and Spring. Designed to be more Q & A and discussion rather than a continuing stream of facts and figures that can be gleaned from other sources, our focus is on what it is that makes us unique not only as Anglicans, but as Anglican Christians in this new age of globalization, when it seems that so many of the world religions are offering the same basic faith statements with only slightly different packaging. What sets us apart? For further information speak to one of the clergy.

The Inquirer's Class is also designed as the natural stepping stone to confirmation as an Episcopalian. Individuals interested in formally associating themselves with the Episcopal church will first need to participate in the inquirer's class in order to be confirmed into the Episcopal Church. You may also participate in the class and decline confirmation. Inquirer's Class is an opportunity, not and obligation.

For more information about the Inquirer's Class please contact Rev. Susan N. Blue at 202.232.2995 ext 12.
