Organist & Choirmaster Dr. Theodore Guerrant

Theodore Guerrant, a native of College Park, Georgia, made his first public appearance as a pianist at the age of four on Atlanta television. He began formal piano studies with Regina Pudney at age five and organ studies at age eleven with Frank Willingham.

By the time he was a high school senior at Woodward Academy as a nephew and student of Eliza Holmes Feldmann, artist-in-residence at Brenau College in Gainesville, Georgia, he was playing five church services and four choral rehearsals each week. From there he went on to receive five degrees in music: the Bachelor of Music cum laude in piano and the Master of Fine Arts in harpsichord from the University of Georgia (Athens); the Master of Music in piano from the University of Wisconsin (Madison); the Doctor of Musical Arts in piano performance-literature from the University of Maryland (College Park); and the Graduate Performance Diploma in organ from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore). He was the recipient of several scholarships, assistantships and fellowships. He studied additionally in Buriton, England, with Denise Lassimonne.

Dr. Guerrant is currently Organist-Choirmaster at Saint Margaret's Episcopal Church; Associate Organist at Saint Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hyattsville; Assisting Organist at the University of Maryland Chapel; and rehearsal assistant/accompanist for the Federal City Performing Arts Association, the Laurel Oratorio Society, and the National Philharmonic Chorale. He is on the teaching staff of the University of Maryland School of Music as a coach-accompanist, and makes his home in the historic district of Laurel, Maryland.
